Press Release: 2/4/2025
For the past year it has been my great honor to represent the Third Ward on Common Council. I am now running for County Legislature after I was encouraged to do so by Susan Currie. Susan has been an exceptional representative, and I would never have challenged her for that seat. Now that the seat is open, I see this as a continuation of my commitment to our community. In the year that I have sat on Council, I have come to the clear conclusion that the issues facing our community are not limited by the borders of the City of Ithaca.
At the County level, I can only hope to live up to Susan's example. However, I do want to focus on a few things, such as:
Avoiding future double taxation by both the City and County for services, like TCAT, and advocating for restructuring to end such unfair tax systems;
Addressing Homelessness at the County level;
Encouraging the Towns, City, and Villages to collaborate and coordinate further;
Ensuring our agricultural and natural resources County-wide are protected;
Working towards a County-wide collaborative plan to address our housing challenges;
Doing everything within our power to protect members of our community who are unjustly persecuted and attacked.
At a time when Ithaca, and our beliefs, values, and rights are under attack, it is all the more vital to have local representation, and for that representation to be strong. I will not give in to intimidation or attack. I am a proud birthright citizen, a proud Latino, a proud Indian-American, and above all of it, an Ithacan and an American. I will bring an experienced and diverse voice to our County Legislature, one who has served on the Common Council and has training as a lawyer, engineer, and policymaker. I announced the campaign at the Lehman Alternative Community School on January 15th, 2025.
